Dr. Kennedy Ameyaw Baah is a Lecturer of Chemistry at the Department of Science Education, Wesley College of Education, Kumasi where he has taught for 19 years and 3 months. He was the first academic staff in all the Colleges of Education institutions in Ghana promoted to Chief Tutor. Dr. Kennedy Ameyaw Baah is currently the Principal of Wesley College of Education.
He holds PhD in Organic and Natural Products Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He holds two Masters degrees, a Master of Philosophy degree in Organic and Natural Products Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology in Ghana and Masters of Science Education from University of Education, Winneba. He also holds Bachelor’s degree in Science Education from the University of Cape Coast. He obtained a 3-year Post-secondary Certificate A from Wesley College and a Senior Secondary Certificate from Fijai Secondary School in Sekondi-Takoradi.
He is an astute Chemist who researches Organic and Natural Products, Analytical Chemistry Science and Chemistry Education. He has trained many Undergraduate and Post Graduate Diploma in Education students who are professional teachers. He has over 15 peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals.
In the area of natural products, he investigates the phytoconstituents of various medicinal plants as well as seeds and stem bark known to have high medicinal values. He also research into activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiplasmodial activities of various extracts, fractions and isolates of medicinal plants.
In the area of Analytical chemistry, he researched into the assessment of some quality parameters and chemometric-assisted FTIR spectral analysis of commercial powdered ginger products on the Ghanaian market.
He also investigated in the hydroethanol extract and triterpenoids of Senegalia ataxacantha show antiplasmodial activity and the compounds are predicted to inhibit parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pfLDH) as indicated by molecular docking studies.
In the area of Science and Chemistry Education, his research focuses on identifying the problems associated with the teaching and learning of Chemistry and identifying ways to improve the teaching and learning of Chemistry at all levels of the educational ladder.
Dr. Baah has taught chemistry at both the secondary and tertiary levels of education across institutions. He currently teaches chemistry at Wesley College of Education. He is one of the coauthors of Best Brains Science textbooks approved by NaCCA.
He is a member of Ghana Chemical Society, Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).
He has served the National, and College communities through his involvement as a member of the College Governing Council, Chairman of the three Governing Council Standing Committees, that is Development, Appointments and Promotions and Entity Tender Committees and a member of two others, finance and Audit Committees, board member of Faculty of Educational Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Member of Subcommittee, E-learning International Conference (ELIC’24), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Compliance Officer for National Teaching Council, External Supervisor, National Teaching Council, Examiner, West African Examination Council. He has been a science facilitator for Centre for Performance Monitoring Evaluation.
He is also the Project lead that won Phase 1 and Phase 2 AI in Teacher Education Commonwealth of Learning Canada, grant of GH 302,454.10
The Principal who is the academic and administrative head of the College, spending officer and chief disciplinary officer is responsible to the Council for the overall administration of the College. He has to be informed of all developments and problems in the College, particularly those pertaining to academic activities, finance, physical developments and students’ affairs.
The Principal also serves as spokesperson in relation to the government and external bodies including the international community. In the execution of his duties, the Principal works mainly through the various boards/committees which are responsible for policy-making, some of which he serves on as Chairman. he has unrestricted rights to attend any meeting within the College.
The Principal has the right to attend and make contributions at all meetings of College bodies and has the right to receive or access minutes of all College bodies.
