Advancing Agricultural Education and Practical Skills Development

The Agriculture Unit of Wesley College of Education is dedicated to advancing agricultural education through a strong blend of theory and practical engagement. The department equips students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills in modern and sustainable agricultural practices, preparing them for both academic progression and real-world application.

Students actively participate in practical training on the school farm, where a variety of crops such as vegetables and other seasonal produce are cultivated using improved farming techniques. The department has also integrated simple irrigation systems to enhance crop growth and demonstrate efficient water management practices.

In addition to crop production, the department operates an animal farm, including Rabbit rearing, Turkey production, and Local poultry, where students gain practical experience in animal care, feeding, housing, and basic health management. This exposure helps students understand the principles of animal husbandry and agribusiness.

A key feature of the department’s practical work is the plant nursery, where seedlings are carefully raised in recycled materials such as plastic containers. This initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also instills creativity and resourcefulness in students.

Through regular fieldwork, demonstrations, and supervised activities, students develop critical skills in teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving. These experiences reinforce classroom learning and contribute to the holistic development of learners.

The Agriculture Unit remains committed to promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and the development of future educators and professionals in the agricultural sector.
