The French Education Unit of Wesley College of Education (WESCO), Kumasi, successfully celebrated its 25th Anniversary Lecture on 25th May 2026 at the E. H. Brew Riverson Hall. Held under the theme “French Education: The Pathway for Greater Opportunities,” the event brought together students, staff, alumni, and invited guests to reflect on the achievements and impact of French language education at the College over the past twenty-five years.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Gabriel Owusu Ansah, Lecturer at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, who emphasized the importance of French language proficiency in creating educational, professional, and international opportunities. The programme was chaired by Dr. Alexander Ocloo, while the Principal of the College, Dr. Kennedy Ameyaw Baah, attended as the Special Guest of Honour.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the recognition of the contributions of the late Dr. Albert Yao Yegblemenawo and Mr. Shamsudeen Yunis Idris, whose efforts led to the establishment of the French language programme at Wesley College of Education in 2001. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the Unit’s accomplishments, honour its pioneers, and reaffirm the College’s commitment to promoting multilingual education and preparing future educators for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
